Being a most progressive area, Catawba County has many cultural events and opportunities for the residents.

The Catawba Science Center is especially designed for children to learn through all of their senses-sight, sound and touch. It is a natural science center where children become part of the world around them. The museum can use your help - donations of time, money or articles would be most appreciated. The Center is located in the Arts Center of Catawba Valley at 243 3rd Ave., N.E. in Hickory. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 9:00am until 4:00pm; Sunday 2:00pm until 5:00pm. They are closed Mondays.

The Hickory Museum of Art, founded in 1944, is entirely donation supported. It is an exhibition and training center where people of all ages may avail themselves of the opportunity to view, study and enjoy art in all forms; to have a permanent collection of art, with emphasis on American art; and be of no charge to the public. Annually, it has conducted a major competitive exhibition of the best work being done in the local schools from grades one through twelve. This competition, sponsored by the Hickory Rotary Club, has created great interest among students and their parents. The museum offers art classes for children and adults along with many other activities for persons interested in art. The museum is located in the Arts Center Catawba Valley at 243 3rd Ave. N.E. The Western Piedmont Symphony was organized to combine the musical talents and interests of the people in the Catawba Valley area.

The Community Concert Association was created in order to bring nationally known musical talent to Hickory. Concerts are performed at the P.E. Monroe Auditorium on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne College.

The Hickory Community Theater presents at least three productions a year in the Hickory Municipal Auditorium.

The Hickory Youth Theatre is designed to provide a creative growth experience for young people from pre-school through high school. Special programs which they sponsor are "Supertots" and "Diaper Gym."
